Emily Bernard named an Andrew Carnegie Fellow for 2020

Congratulations to Emily Bernard who was named one of the coveted Andrew Carnegie Fellows Program Winners of 2020. Each winner receives $200,000 in philanthropic support for high-caliber scholarly research in the humanities and social sciences that addresses important and enduring issues confronting our society. Brown University President Emeritus Vartan Gregorian noted that this year's 27 fellowships were selected from 322 nominations. The program seeks to include emerging and established scholars from across the country.

Professor Emily Bernard has won the prestigious Christopher Isherwood Prize for autobiographical prose in the Los Angeles Times 2020 Book Prizes competition for her 2019 book, “Black Is the Body.” (02-20-2020)

Alumna Alexandria Hall '15 was named one of five winners of the 2019 National Poetry Series Open Competition. (8-26-19)

Shanti Boyle '21 has an internship with the Smithsonian American Art Museum. (7-16-19)

Film and Television Studies

Accelerated MA Program

Old Mill and the University Green in the fall.


Earn a Master’s Degree identical to our standard two-year MA on an accelerated timeline by beginning the work before graduating from UVM.  Normally a Bachelors degree and a Masters degree takes six years.  In the Accelerated Master’s Program (AMP) you can earn both degrees in five years, saving both time and tuition dollars.
