Large and well-equipped laboratory spaces facilitate research

We offer a variety of funded research opportunities which are only open to graduate students at many universities. At UVM, we help undergraduate students fund their projects by providing fellowships and awards to get student projects off the ground. Our fellowships expose you to the labs of many faculty members, provide opportunities to apply your coursework to hands-on experiences, and refine your research interests leading to a desired career path. If you have a passion you want to pursue through a research project, explore the many options we offer below:

Chemistry Scholars:

This unique research opportunity selects five students from the incoming first-year class and offers them close-knit peer and faculty mentorship and research experience. During their first year, students meet regularly as a group and are matched with a research advisor. With the help of this faculty mentor, students develop a research project that will continue through all four years, including one summer of guaranteed research support.

Martin E. Kuehne Organic Chemistry Summer Fellowship:

The Martin E. Kuehne Organic Chemistry Summer Fellowship is offered to a UVM chemistry major wishing to pursue research in organic chemistry during the summer. The Martin Kuehne Fellowship was established by a gift from Louise Foley, Ph.D., thanking Prof. Kuehne for giving her the chance to do research "at a time when women were given few opportunities."

Summer Research Fund for Women in Chemistry:

The Summer Research Fund for Women in Chemistry is offered to a UVM female undergraduate chemistry major wishing to pursue research in chemistry during the summer.

A. Paul Krapcho Chemistry Summer Fellowship:

The A. Paul Krapcho Chemistry Summer Fellowship supports a UVM undergraduate chemistry/biochemistry major to pursue research in chemistry during the summer. This award has been generously funded by Paul A. Anderson, Ph.D. for Prof. Krapcho (now emeritus), who has been an inspiration to numerous undergraduate chemistry majors.

Through the Honors College Office of Undergraduate Research:

Summer research awards provide prestigious, competitive awards to outstanding undergraduates who wish to pursue a specific research project under the mentorship of a faculty member. Summer programs offer a $3,500 stipend and up to $1,500 for expenses & supplies. The mini-grant program offers students the opportunity to work closely with faculty on individually designed research projects. Mini-grants also provide up to $500 for a semester during the academic year and $1000 for the summer. The College of Arts & Sciences Academic Programs for Learning and Engagement (APLE) offers a $3000 summer fellowship for two outstanding undergraduates to pursue a research with a faculty member.
