Steve Gagner is a full-time lecturer at the Grossman School of Business. He earned an MBA in Finance from Norwich University in 2017 and is currently a doctoral student in Educational Leadership and Policy Studies at the University of Vermont. His research focuses on Leadership Development and Strategic Planning. In his inaugural year of teaching at UVM, Steve was selected by the GSB student body as the 2023-2024 Professor of the Year.
Prior to joining the GSB faculty in 2024, Steve served as a Lieutenant Colonel in the United States Army and retired after nearly 28 years of service. During his time in the Army, Steve’s notable assignments include commanding an Infantry Reconnaissance Company, serving as the Assistant Professor of Military Science at Norwich University, and commanding the US Army’s Mountain Warfare School. His notable military awards include the Legion of Merit, two Bronze Stars, and induction in both the Orders of Saint Maurice (Infantry) and Saint George (Cavalry), among others.
Steve is also a successful entrepreneur, being named the Small Business Administration’s Business Person of the Year (2019), the Military Times’ Entrepreneur of the Year (2018), a Vermont Rising Star (40-Under-40) in 2016, and has graced the covers of both Vermont Life magazine (Autumn 2016) and the SBA’s Resource Guide (2019).
