Congratulations to Grossman School of Business students, Joe Consorti and Connor Mccormack, who joined forces with College of Engineering and Mathematical Sciences (CEMS) students, Will Jeffries and Olivia Mead, to take first place in the prestigious Engineering and Commerce Case Competition (ENGCOMM) hosted by Concordia University in Montreal over the weekend.
The UVM team performed exceptionally well, winning in the following categories:
- 1st place overall
- Best International Team
- Best Business Solution
- Best Engineering Solution
- Best Team Chemistry
- Best Presenter: Joe Consorti
While ENGCOMM was held online again this year, the cases mirrored previous competitions, combining engineering and business problems that require students to work across disciplines to develop an integrated solution.
Grossman School of Business student Joe Consorti says “Competing in ENGCOMM was an eye-opening experience. Working with engineering students brought a new layer of added creativity into each one of the cases, and our solutions. Our CEMS partners, Will Jeffries and Olivia Mead were fantastic case partners, and always brought great work to the table, whether it was a flying car or regenerative energy houses. Definitely give ENGCOMM a shot if you’re looking for a case competition that incorporates skillful collaboration with creative problem solving.”
His comments were mirrored by Connor Mccormack. "Competing in ENGCOMM was a fantastic experience that allowed our team to be as creative as possible. The engineering design added an extra layer of complexity, but we had two brilliant CEMS students--Will Jeffries and Olivia Mead--who helped bridge the gap between engineering and business."
The other finalists were from the University of Calgary and the American University in Cairo.
Congratulations to Connor, Joe, Olivia, and Will on their excellent performance.
