Whether in Rotterdam, Montreal or recently at the Milgard Invitational Case Competition on Corporate Social Responsibility (MICCSR), Grossman students continue to make their mark applying classroom learning to case competitions.

MICCSR, held last week at the University of Washington-Tacoma, is a highly regarded competition that attracts student teams from business schools around the world. This year 17 universities from the U.S., Canada, Australia, Singapore, Thailand, and India sent teams to Tacoma.

As the name suggests, MICCSR focuses on socially responsible corporate behavior.  Each year a Pacific Northwest company sponsors the competition and submits a case to be analyzed. This year, Microsoft asked the teams to consider the opportunities presented, and the threats posed, by the rapid advances being made in Artificial Intelligence.

Our UVM Grossman team of Simon Pavlow, Laurin Goldberg, Claire Greenlaw and Will Hanley -- advanced from their 5-team group to the finals.  They placed 4th overall, an outstanding accomplishment given the strength of the competition. BYU won (for the 2nd year running), followed by Florida State and the University of Calgary.

It's great to say we shared the podium with those teams, but as always, the students' real reward was the learning taken from, and the growth experienced, by participating in a competitive environment.

The full list of competing teams were:

U. of Texas – Austin, USC, U. of Hawaii, Nanyang Technical U. (Singapore), Stetson U. BYU, Florida State, St. Xavier’s College (India), Elon U., Gonzaga, Georgetown, U. of Queensland (Australia), U. of Florida, UW-Tacoma, U. of Calgary, Thammasat Business School (Thailand)
