t The Vermont Business Magazine (VBM), in partnership with the Vermont Chamber of Commerce, has established a Vermont Business Hall of Fame now located at the University of Vermont's School of Business Administration. This is the 20th year that VBM has awarded a Vermont company with the Dean C. Davis Outstanding Business of the Year Award. Named after former Governor Deane C. Davis, the prestigious award is given to the Vermont company that has met the highest standards of excellence. This year, the award went to BioTek Instruments in Winooski. "The criteria really, is growth in sales, growth in employees, commitment to the community, and commitment to the environment," said John Boutin, of the Vermont Business Magazine. Past winners include Hubbardton Forge, NRG Systems, Wild Apple Graphics, and IDX Corporation. Organizers say housing the Hall of Fame in Kalkin Hall just made sense. "The kids that we're trying to reach with this are Business students," said Boutin. "This is really a good opportunity for us to partner with and perhaps help our students out in terms of them getting internships, research projects, research projects for our faculty, and just an opportunity to give our professional expertise and give something back to the community," said Dean Larry Shirland, of the School of Business.
