Our annual Hoffman Family Business Lecture Series brings some of the top minds in family business to campus every year.
The series is generously underwritten by the Hoffman family, and last week we were honored to host Matthew S. Hoffman, '99, who took the time out of his busy schedule to attend a working breakfast with several top Grossman students.
Mr. Hoffman is vice president/dealer principal of Hoffman Auto Group, which was founded in 1921 by Israel Hoffman. Matthew joined the company in June, 2002 and in addition to working alongside his father and co-chairman, Jeffrey S. Hoffman and his uncle and co-chairman, I. Bradley Hoffman, Matthew has recently welcomed his brother, Jonathan T. Hoffman and cousin, Zachary R. Hoffman to the successful family owned and operated company.
He shared his career journey from UVM that after a stint with Salomon Smith Barney, and running an online coffee business, in 2002 ultimately led him back to the family business. A 4th generation family business that today employs 550 people. He noted if considering working for a family business it is vital to do your due diligence. Try to understand the family dynamics, and if all share the vision and direction for the business. Mr. Hoffman also stated the need to be a part of the community and to give back. He is on the board and highly engaged with several organizations. He and his family are involved with many other local and national charities for the arts, education, medical associations, and social wellbeing within the Greater Hartford area. The Hoffman Family Business Series speakers enrich the academic experience throughout the academic year, and we thank Matthew, and his family, for their generous support.
