The Grossman School of Business' Master of Accountancy (MAcc) cohort, and more than 20 sophomores and juniors interested in a career in accounting, were treated to a visit Monday from a special guest; UVM '90 alum, Michael Schneider.

Mr. Schneider is the Partner In-Charge of audit for KPMG’s Metro New York business unit, encompassing offices in New York, New Jersey and Connecticut, and various industries including consumer and industrial businesses, technology, media and telecommunications, higher education and not-for-profit, and healthcare.

He leads a team of approximately 600 audit partners and professionals, serving as the lead audit partner for a number of clients, including many Fortune 500 companies, with oversight for business and financial operations and resource management, and has over 27 years of experience providing financial statement audit, audit of internal control, and due diligence services to public and private companies.

As Mr. Schneider was a former partner in charge of human resources for KPMG’s NJ practice, and actively involved in on-campus recruiting, his information session and discussion focused on recruitment and the numerous career paths in the accounting world.

He stressed the attributes typically looked for when hiring; the right attitude, communication as well as technical skills, a willingness to learn, hard work and to be a team player.

MAcc student Renee Cruise said "his comments were very interesting," she continued "usually the program guest speakers concentrate on technical accounting subjects, so it was very helpful to hear him speak about a wide range of career insights."

Thank you Michael for your time and speaking to the myriad career opportunities open to our students.
