Far from their classmates in Kalkin Hall, nine Business students made a big investment in their future by pounding the pavement on Park Avenue.
"The networking aspect of it is huge," said Vasilis Varsakopoulos, a senior Business Administration student concentrating in Finance and Accounting.
These students make up the Finance and Investment Club, which is open to all UVM students. The group was in New York City as part of its annual networking trip to meet with School of Business alums. This year they visited three companies: UBS, Greenhill and Co., and Arden Asset Management.
"Just giving us a better acquaintance to the field and also giving us some career tips and just learning how to finagle our way into the field which is pretty important," said Varsakopoulos.
And for some of the younger members, it's not just these big networking trips that make joining the club worthwhile.
College is a much more communal atmosphere, when you're in high school a freshman might not really talk to a senior, but in college and this club, you can especially have those relationships with the upperclassmen who can expose you to things they wish they had done," said Parker Mitchell, a first year Business Administration student.
