Vermont state and business leaders filled the lobby of Kalkin Hall on Tuesday, May 24 for the annual Deane C. Davis (DCD) Vermont Business Hall of Fame induction ceremony. The School of Business Administration is the official home of the Vermont Business Hall of Fame.
“Vermont Business Magazine and the Vermont Chamber of Commerce wanted to house the Deane C Davis Vermont Business Hall of Fame in a place that would well represent the true meaning of the DCD Award and the businesses that have won the award for the past twenty years and the companies that will follow,” said John Boutin, publisher of the Vermont Business Magazine. “Not only is the School of Business Administration well known and respected here in Vermont as well as worldwide but it is also where many of the past DCD Award winners and Hall of Fame members management teams received their education.”
Last year’s award winner, Biotek Instruments, was officially inducted into the Hall of Fame during the reception in Kalkin Hall. Biotek was founded by Dr. Norman Alpert, a longtime faculty member in UVM’s College of Medicine. Today, Alpert’s two sons, Adam and Briar, also UVM graduates, run the company.
“This partnership with the Vermont Chamber of Commerce and Vermont Business Magazine epitomizes the University’s ongoing commitment to creating knowledge and resources that fuel the economic engine of the state of Vermont,” said Interim Dean Larry Shirland, of the School of Business Administration.
“So many students walk through the Lobby of Kalkin Hall everyday and they can see just how many great companies we have here in Vermont,” Boutin said.
This year’s award winner was Small Dog Electronics.
