ACCESS 2012-2013
Work Study Employment
The ACCESS office, part of Academic Support Programs (ASP) is designed to provide Accommodations,
Consultation, Collaboration, and Educational Support Services for students with
documented disabilities at the
The ACCESS main office is located in Building A of the Living/Learning near the MAT parking lot. The
ACCESS main office employs 5 disability specialists, services for the deaf and
hard of hearing, the ASP Services Manager, and a cadre of work-study students.
The main office is where our disability programs are administered.
The Exam Proctoring Center (EPC) is located just down the hall in Building A of the
Living/Learning Building. The EPC
coordinator and over 40 work student students proctored over 1800 exams last
year. It is a busy and vibrant place to work!
Across campus on the second floor of
Bailey Howe Library, is our Universal Design Technology Lab
(UDTL) is located. The lab coordinator
works to manage the note taking system, among other things, while the Adaptive
Media/Student Support Services Specialist implements technology based
accommodations. The work study students in the UDTL get to learn aspects of
adaptive technology like text to speech and speech to text programs, as well as
assisting with the note taking program and teaching other students how to use
different kinds of technology found in the UDTL.
In ACCESS, our work study students are a vital part of disability services at the University and in our community. We want to have meaningful work for you, so that at the end of your time in our office, you will have learned a number of transferable skills in the areas of communication, research, human resources, disability services, diversity and work & service. We have outlined the three major areas we expect our work study students to work on.
