No-Show Procedures

ACCESS provides reasonable and appropriate accommodations for eligible students, including TypeWell, Interpreters and paid notetakers. When a student does not attend class on a regular basis or is consistently late for class and this becomes a pattern, ACCESS becomes concerned and will request a meeting with the student to determine why they are not able to attend class and to remind the student of our procedures.

We understand that there are times when you will not be able to get to class. If an interpreter, TypeWell or paid notetaker has been requested and you know that you will not be able to attend class, please try to contact ACCESS within 24 hours. Failure to provide any advance notice is considered a No-show.
To give advance notice that you will not be able to attend class or that you will be late, contact:

Sharon Mone
Telephone: (802) 656-7753
Text: (802) 355-9281

No show, failure to provide advance notice or late arrival will result in the following actions:

Late Arrival
Late arrivals – In all instances, TypeWell, Interpreters or paid notetakers will wait 15 minutes for you to show up for class and will leave if you do not show or contact ACCESS. If you are running more than 15 minutes late, please let ACCESS know and we will notify TypeWell, Interpreters or paid notetakers.  If you do not notify ACCESS before class or during the first 15 minutes of class, TypeWell, Interpreters or paid notetakers will leave.

No Shows
3 Consecutive No-Shows – TypeWell, Interpreters or paid notetakers will be temporarily suspended if you miss class 3 consecutive times.  ACCESS will contact you to let you know that your accommodation(s) have been suspended and will not be reinstated until you meet with your ACCESS Specialist.

Subsequent No-Shows - if you continuously miss class and this becomes a pattern, TypeWell, Interpreters or paid notetakers will be suspended until you contact the your ACCESS Specialist. If you continue to miss class on a regular basis, accommodations will be suspended for the remainder of the semester.

Other
Numerous cancellations – if cancelling class becomes a pattern, TypeWell, Interpreters or paid notetakers will be suspended until you contact your ACCESS Specialist.

Notes - if you are a no show or cancel class, the TypeWell transcriber, Interpreter or paid notetaker will not remain in class. This means that there will be NO notes for no shows or cancellations. It is your responsibility to find notes for the class(es) that you have missed.
Keep in mind that if you are late, TypeWell or the notetaker will not begin taking notes until you arrive.

Religious Holidays – per UVM’s attendance policy, if you inform the professor in advance that you will be missing class due to a religious holiday AND the professor agrees to allow you to have notes for the class you are missing, TypeWell or paid notetakers will cover the class. Please notify ACCESS in advance if you will be missing class due to a religious holiday.
