Welcome to the University of Vermont! Below you will find information and resources that will help you have the best experience in your summer courses.

Registration and Enrollment

Pre-RegistrationCourse registration is open to UVM students and alumni, professionals, students and graduates from other colleges, high school students, lifelong learners, and other continuing education students.

If you are a current UVM student, you can register for summer courses through your MYUVM portal.

If you are new to UVM, or are a pre-college student, you should fill out the Pre-registration Form for summer courses at UVM (no obligation). By completing the Pre-Registration Form, you are provided with a UVM Student Identification number from the registrar’s office and a NetID for email and student portal access.

Note that the registration process for new students and Pre-college students can take up to a week.

  • Activate Your Net ID: After you pre-register, within 1-2 business days, UVM will create an email account and NetID for all students. Activate your UVM “NetID” by going to www.uvm.edu/account. Your NetID (your UVM user name that connects you to your UVM e-mail address) is usually your first initial and 7 letters of your last name (but this may vary). After you have activated your NetID, you will be prompted to set up a password, and given instructions as to how to access your e-mail account, which may be forwarded to any other account you have. All official UVM correspondence, including billing notices, will be sent to your UVM email account. It is very important to check it often. The best way to access your UVM e-mail is through myUVM. The logo for myUVM is located at the top right of all UVM webpages, next to “Search UVM.”
  • Log into your myUVM: As a student, you have access to the web-based student portal. This is where all of your information is kept, as well as where you will go to register for courses, view your schedule, add/drop/ withdraw from a course and access your billing information. You can access this system by going to myUVM at: https://myuvm.uvm.edu. This myUVM portal link is available in the top right corner of every page on the UVM website.
  • Adding/Dropping a course – To register for a course, log into your myUVM portal and select the Add/Drop/Withdraw menu. Keep in mind that during the summer the add/drop periods are much shorter. You can reference the add/drop deadlines here: www.uvm.edu/~summer/summer-add-drop-and-withdrawal-dates/ Those dates are also available under each summer course description.
  • Withdrawing from a course – if you wish to withdraw from a course after the drop deadline, you can do so from myUVM portal during the withdrawal period, by clicking on Add/Drop/Withdraw button. Refund of tuition is based on the date of course withdrawal. Check the course description for specific dates. Students who simply stop attending classes without completing one of the formal procedures listed above will not be automatically dropped or withdrawn from the course and will likely receive a failing grade on their transcript.

Tuition and Financial Aid

Tuition is discounted 30% from academic year tuition. Vermont residents, even if attending a college or university out-of-state, qualify for the UVM in-state rate. Carefully review Tuition and Fees and Financial Aid information. Make note of the UVM billing cycle and that My UVM Portal can be used to access financial details. Only UVM students are allowed by FERPA law to access their personal information (grades, transcripts, billing). Students may set up up a parent or someone else who is supporting the financial aspects of their education, with Proxy Access. The student can grant a Proxy online access to their financial aid and/or account and billing information. For more information on Proxy Access, visit: https://www.uvm.edu/studentfinancialservices/setting_proxy_access.

Things to do before your first class

  1. Are you registered for an online course? Before your course begins, go to uvm.edu/online for information on how to access your course and how online courses work.
  2. Get your UVM ID Card through the UVM CATCARD Service Center.
  3. Buy your books from the UVM bookstore or other vendors.
  4. Connect to the UVM Libraries by visiting https://library.uvm.edu/. Resources include the online library catalog, databases, course reserves, and other services
  5. .

If you are connecting to the library from off-campus, click on “Connect from Off Campus” and follow the instructions for setting up your proxy server or downloading the VPN client. You will need your CATcard to sign out library materials, check your library records, renew your library books, or to recall materials from other users. You will need your Net ID and password to access online library resources including electronic reserves.

Grades and Transcripts

Grades for Summer term courses will be available online at myUVM.

Follow these simple procedures:

  • Log in using your NetID and password
  • Click on View Grades
  • High school students should do this right away before you lose login privileges. (If this happens, you will need to go to Network ID & Account Management and select Set up your NetID.)

You can request your official transcript by logging into myUVM student portal and going to the Registrar tab. You can find more information here: https://www.uvm.edu/registrar/request-your-transcript

Transferring Credit

You will need to contact your home institution to ensure that they will accept the transfer credits from your course(s). If you need a syllabus ahead of time, please contact the instructor of the course by clicking on the link to their name within the course’s webpage. You may also contact the Department offering the course for more information.

Accessibility Services

Visit Student Accessibility Services (SAS) in the Center for Academic Success for information on accommodations. Please be aware that it could take between 1-3 weeks, sometimes longer, to receive and implement accommodations with SAS. This is based on several potential factors, including but not limited to: the nature of a student’s academic accommodation requests, the availability of appropriate supporting documentation, and scheduling appointments during peak periods of a semester.

Summer Housing

There’s no need to commit to a lease/sublet for the entire summer. Live with other summer academic students in one of our residence halls with access to a fully staffed main desk and a residence director on duty 24/7. Learn more at Summer housing options.

Transportation and Parking

Visit UVM Transportation and Parking Services for information about parking passes and public transportation options.
