Orange barUVM students have the ability to grant access to third party individuals to view account and billing and financial aid information.

In compliance with the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act of 1974, student financial and academic records may not be shared with a third party without written consent.

By designating someone as a Proxy, a student is giving Student Financial Services permission to speak with that person about their financial aid and billing account. A student may set up multiple Proxies for their account.

A Proxy cannot access a student's grades, transcripts, schedule, or register the student for classes.

Setting up a Proxy (for access to billing, financial aid, and Federal tax information)

A student who has parents, a spouse, or others supporting the financial aspect of their education may set them up with Proxy Access through myUVM.

A Proxy with Account and Billing access can:

  • View account activity and balance information
  • View billing statements
  • Make online payments
  • Access Federal tax form 1098-T
  • Receive billing related email notifications; including notifications when bills are available to view online, and reminders on applicable due dates

A Proxy with Financial Aid access can:

  • View the financial aid offer
  • View the financial aid requirements
To remove Proxy Access
  • Adjust the stop date

Proxy Email Address

Student Financial Services uses the Proxy email address to send notifications when billing statements are available (if given authorization for account and billing access by the student) and to notify you of other account related information for your student.

To update your email address:

  1. Log into the Proxy Access System
  2. Update your email address in your profile

Proxy PIN

A Proxy can change their PIN by logging into the Proxy Access System and selecting "Click here to change your PIN" on the profile tab.

If you have forgotten your Proxy PIN, you can use the "Forgot PIN" button on the Proxy Access login page.* Alternatively, you can also have your student reset your PIN by logging into their myUVM account, selecting "Set Up and Manage Proxy Users" under the Proxy Access card, expanding the Proxy by clicking on name, and then selecting Reset PIN.

Student Financial Service Counselors do not have access to view or set a PIN.

*If you are selecting Forgot PIN when using an @comcast.net email address, it has come to our attention that PIN reset emails sent from the Proxy system will not be received through your provider. Therefore, if you are using a Comcast email please contact our office for assistance. Otherwise, we strongly suggest that you select an alternative email to use for our Proxy Access system and have your student re-set you up using an alternative email.

If you use Comcast as an email provider

It has come to our attention that there have been problems when completing the set up process, or during the PIN reset process, for Comcast users (have a @comcast.net email address). It is our understanding that recipients waiting for the necessary set-up emails, or PIN reset emails from the Proxy system are not being received through their provider.

Therefore, our office is strongly encouraging Comcast users to use an alternative email address for our Proxy Access system.
