HUMAN RIGHTS DEBATE:

Time: 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.
Location: L/L 216
Description: HUMAN RIGHTS DEBATE: The Mexico Solidarity Network presents: "The Human Rights Debate - Between the cynicism of Mexican authorities and people's dignity" with Pablo Obando of the Fray Bartolome Human Rights Center and Mexico Solidarity Network representative Stuart Schussler.

For 25 years Frayba has been a leading voice in denouncing human rights violations of the indigenous communities of Chiapas and in accompanying these same communities as they engage in inspirational processes to promote their own rights. While Ayotzinapa has brought attention to systematic human rights violations, such crimes have a long history in Chiapas - and the long struggle against them has much to teach everyone resisting crimes of the State.

Sponsored by: Global and Regional Studies, Latin American and Caribbean Studies, Global Studies, Political Science, and History.

LANE SERIES CONCERT:"The Nile Project"

Time: 8:00 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.
Location: Flynn Mainstage
Description: LANE SERIES CONCERT:"The Nile Project" Flowing from the rich cultural traditions, geopolitical issues, and the great beauty of the world’s longest river comes the exciting World Music event, THE NILE PROJECT. We launch a three-day residency with this ensemble of musicians and environmental activists from the Nile Region with a spectacular concert on the Flynn Mainstage. Led by charismatic Ethiopian-American singer MEKLIT HADERO, a pan-Nile percussion section drives this orchestra of Ethiopian, Egyptian, and Ugandan instruments along with vocalists singing in eleven different languages. The Nile Project’s unique sound comes from intensive work among various musicians, learning from one another and translating that experience into both traditional and collectively composed new songs. The result is an unprecedented collaboration that garnered the Nile Project’s first recording, Aswan, a coveted spot on NPR’s Top 5 Must-Hear International Albums of 2013.

Global Village has a limited number of free tickets! Stop by the L/L Director's Office Mon-Fri, 8:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. to get yours!
