Writing Groups and Retreats

In an effort to support faculty in the pursuit of their own writing projects, WID offers both committed writing groups and drop-in writing retreats.

Faculty Writing Retreats: Drop in During Our Retreat Time!

Body

WID's flexible Faculty Writing Retreat offers faculty a companionable, quiet space for writing without a commitment to a writing group. Faculty bring their laptops or paper, and WID supplies coffee, tea, and snacks. Faculty are welcome to drop in and work for any or all of the Writing Retreat time and as often or infrequently as they wish. WID's Writing Retreat is offered once a week throughout the semester. In-person in 302 Howe Library; registration not required but recommended so that you can receive reminders and updates should a session need to be canceled.

Sign up now for Fridays, 9-12, throughout the Fall 2025 semester.

Writing in Good Company: Weekly Writing Groups

Body

WID's Writing in Good Company initiative provides faculty with an opportunity for routine writing time in structured writing groups. Each small group commits to meeting regularly (typically weekly) for 2-3 hours. At the beginning of each semester, groups decide amongst themselves how they would like to structure their time. For many groups, the time spent together begins with a brief discussion or goal setting with the remaining time spent quietly writing. In-person in 302 Howe Library; registration required.

Sign up now for Mondays, 9-12, throughout the fall semester.

Sign up now for Tuesdays, 9-12, throughout the fall semester.

Faculty As Writers

Body

In addition to teaching, instructors often have writing projects they are trying to squeeze in. This group will explore ways to find time for writing projects, balance workloads, and maintain motivation amidst all of your other responsibilities. We'll tap into resources such as Jolie Jensen's Write No Matter What: Advice for Academics and share tips, experiences, and knowledge group members have discovered along the way. This group meets for one-hour several times during the semester with optional writing time. Hybrid; registration required.
