WID Groups Fall 2026

Faculty Book Group: The Norton Guide to AI-Aware Teaching

Body

How are you thinking about AI's role in your teaching? Whether you're exploring ways to incorporate AI, establishing clear boundaries for student use, or still deciding how to approach it, join colleagues for a discussion of The Norton Guide to AI-Aware Teaching. Together, we'll explore practical strategies for course design, assignments, assessment, and AI policies while sharing questions, concerns, and approaches from our own teaching contexts. The guide is designed to support instructors whether they choose to embrace AI, set firm limits, or find a middle ground.

Two series of this group will be offered in Teams, one on four Thursdays at noon, and one on four Fridays at noon. We’ll cover selected readings from the book for the first three meetings and will reflect and consider next steps during the fourth.

Registration is required.

The Thursday series will meet noon to 1 on October 15, 22, 29, November 5

The Friday series will meet noon to 1 on October 16, 23, 30, November 6

Teaching with Our Values in Challenging Times

Body

This group provides space for instructors to process and share the experience of teaching in the current landscape of higher education. In addition to discussing challenges and giving advice, we’ll focus on our personal teaching values and elevate the values of Our Common Ground. We'll also explore how to support students while setting professional and personal boundaries and managing our own self-care. Whether your teaching directly engages with challenging topics, you’re wondering how world events might affect your classroom, or you just need a place to talk, this group will help support your teaching.

This group will meet on four Wednesdays, 12-1 pm, in Teams on September 23rd, October 21st, November 11th, and December 16th.

CTL staff will be available for questions, feedback, or deeper conversation as you work.

Designated consultation areas will also be available, offering opportunities to connect with us privately.

This group will meet weekly on Tuesdays from 12:30-2:30. Registration required.

Teaching Triangles

Body

A new CTL offering, Teaching Triangles is a semester-long program where small groups of faculty share peer observations and reflections. It’s an opportunity to develop their teaching practices in an intentional, supportive, and structured environment.

We offer a chance to step into another instructor’s classroom, exchange ideas, and reflect on teaching in a supportive community of peers. Instructors who are teaching during the semester are placed into groups of three by the CTL and commit to observing each of their triangle partners once during the semester. After the observations, groups meet to discuss what they noticed, what they learned, and how the experience might inform their own teaching. The CTL coordinates the groups and hosts kickoff and closing gatherings to help participants connect, share experiences, and celebrate their learning.

This group involves some match-making. Therefore, if you are interested in the Teaching Triangles Program, please sign up using this form to sign up. Any questions can be directed at Holly Buckland Parker, Holly.Parker@uvm.edu.
