Starting in fall 2027, the University of Vermont will expand its program offering a significant tuition discount to incoming first-year and transfer students who reside in select regional states and are enrolled in select majors.

Eligibility 

Students are eligible for the Regional Tuition Break if they are permanent residents of Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, or Rhode Island, and their primary major is in any of the following undergraduate programs: 

College of Agriculture and Life Sciences

2027-28 Tuition Rate 

Regional Tuition Break students will pay an estimated rate of $30,240, saving them more than $18,000 each year. (This rate is estimated. The final tuition rates for the 2027-2028 academic year will be set by the UVM Board of Trustees in the coming months. The Regional Tuition Break rate is 175% of the in-state rate, which represents a discount of more than 35% off the non-resident rate.)

When does the program begin?

The Regional Tuition Break program begins with the fall 2027 entering class.  

If I’m a returning student who enrolled at UVM before fall 2027, am I eligible?
Body

No. The Regional Tuition Break is available only to students who enroll as first-time first-year or new transfers for Fall 2027. Students who received the NEBHE Tuition Break before Fall 2027 may continue to receive that benefit while they remain eligible under the prior NEBHE criteria.  

What happens if I change my major?
Body

You must remain in an eligible major to continue receiving the discounted rate.  

How were the eligible majors chosen?
Body

Eligible majors are in the following three colleges: Rubenstein School of Environment and Natural Resources, the College of Education and Social Services, and the College of Agriculture and Life Science. These colleges were selected because of the high number of programs they offer that support service, community impact, and sustainability. 

How will this affect my financial aid?
Body

All financial resources, including tuition discounts, will be taken into account when determining eligibility for financial aid. Merit scholarship amounts offered to students who qualify for the Regional Tuition Break program will be different than for other out-of-state and international students. Information and amounts will be published online soon.
