Lake Champlain Sea Grant is Hiring a Water Resources Extension Specialist

The Lake Champlain Research Institute at SUNY Plattsburgh is seeking to fill an outreach/extension specialist position with the Lake Champlain Sea Grant program. This is a position with the Research Foundation for the State University of New York, a private, nonprofit corporation, independent from the State of New York. The extension specialist will develop, implement, and evaluate an extension education program pertaining to water resources and human use of Lake Champlain and its shoreline.

Duties will include conducting outreach, educational activities, and applied research that: (1) enhance local governmental, business, media, special interest/user groups, and general public awareness and understanding of water resource issues, such as invasive species, water quality, fisheries habitat, and lake recreation; (2) develop and implement or support activities that contribute to such audiences engaging in wise use of aquatic resources and increasing their ability to prepare for and respond to coastal hazardous events; and (3) aid existing outreach and education programs within Lake Champlain Sea Grant.

This full-time, 12-month position will be located in the Lake Champlain Research Institute at SUNY Plattsburgh and work closely with the Lake Champlain Sea Grant staff network at the University of Vermont. These efforts will enhance the Lake Champlain Sea Grant program and enhance workforce development programming of Lake Champlain Sea Grant, UVM Extension program, and SUNY Plattsburgh.

Applicants must have a Master’s degree in natural resources or related science field and demonstrated professional experience in positions dealing with water resource issues. Experience preferred in science-based community outreach and experience with Lake Champlain issues including invasive species, fisheries, and lake resources.
