Lake Champlain Sea Grant Announces 2 National Fellowship Opportunities

The National Sea Grant Office and Lake Champlain Sea Grant announce two prestigious fellowship opportunities for early-career training and research experiences by current or incoming graduate students interested in coastal, marine, and freshwater policy or marine population dynamics or economics. Applications for both fellowships are due in early 2022.

2023 Sea Grant John A. Knauss Marine Policy Fellowship

Knauss Fellow poster What: Sea Grant Knauss Fellowships are one-year, paid fellowships for graduate students interested in ocean, coastal, and freshwater resources and national policy decisions.

Who: Master’s and PhD students currently enrolled through an accredited institution of higher education in Vermont and the Lake Champlain basin.

Where: Knauss fellows are matched with hosts in executive or legislative offices in Washington, DC, where they will be placed for the fellowship year.

When:

  • January 21, 2022: Submit application materials to Lake Champlain Sea Grant for informal feedback (Optional).
  • February 18, 2022: Submit full application package to Lake Champlain Sea Grant. 
  • February 21-March 11, 2022: Lake Champlain Sea Grant conducts interviews.
  • Summer 2022: National Sea Grant announces selected fellows.
  • October 2022, January 2023: Placement week for selected fellows.
  • February 1, 2023–January 31, 2024: Fellowship duration.

2022 National Marine Fisheries Sea Grant Fellowship

National Marine Fisheries Service Fellowship fact sheet What: National Marine Fisheries Sea Grant Fellowships are paid two-to-three-year research fellowships for new or continuing PhD students interested in population and ecosystem dynamics of living marine resources or marine resource economics.

Who and Where: Students who are or will enroll in PhD programs related to marine fisheries through an accredited institution of higher education in Vermont or the Lake Champlain basin.

When:

  • January 27, 2022: Submit applications to Lake Champlain Sea Grant.
  • June 2022: Applicants will be notified.
  • August 1, 2022: Fellowship begins, and continues for two-to-three years.
