In anticipation of post-approval monitoring visits this spring, hold a lab-wide meeting to review the location where your lab safety notebook is stored, review the contents for the correct, most recent versions of Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) and Biohazardous Agent Reference Documents (BARD). Inspect the lab door signage for correct contact information for the Principal Investigator and Key personnel. Make sure to affix BIOHAZARD stickers to all equipment where biological agents are stored, used, or disposed.
The Research Protections office is working closely in person and across database platforms with Environmental Health and Safety; work in progress includes linking CITI training through SciShield to load more training completions into UVMClick and allowing IBC staff access to SciShield and ChemTracker to access chemical safety data sheets, and lab inspection data. If you have not registered your lab in SciShield, you are encouraged to do so. Start here.
IACUC Updates
The Office of Animal Care & Management relies on the VOS System to verify census, and in the future, will be using VOS for invoicing for animal care services. Please reach out to OACM for a refresher on how to order animals, transfer animals between protocols, check allowable animal numbers on a protocol, and where to locate the nearest printer in the animal care facilities so you may quickly and easily update cage cards.
Controlled Substances Updates
In anticipation of controlled substance monitoring visits this spring, review and reconcile your controlled substance logbook, purchasing, and receiving documents, and approved users. Changes to approved users (additions or removals) must be submitted through UVMClick.
