- Check your destination's Travel Advisory - The State Department rates countries on a 1–4 scale. Know your destination's level before you go.
- Review CDC Travelers' Health guidance for recommended vaccines and health precautions specific to your destination.
- Locate the nearest U.S. Embassy or Consulate before you arrive and save the address and phone number in your phone.
Consider Health and Emergency Evacuation Coverage

Most U.S. health insurance plans do not cover you outside the United States. Before you leave, check with your insurance provider to confirm your coverage. If you're not covered internationally, consider purchasing a short-term travel insurance policy that includes emergency medical and security assistance coverage. These policies are reasonably priced for a short trip.
