Hinesburg

Contemporary Landscape

Today, an agricultural legacy is alive in the remaining valley farms in the western half of town. In addition, throughout the Hinesburg Town Forest and the rest of the forested hills in Hinesburg, you can see many cellar holes and barn footings, old sugarbushes and apple orchards, remnants of the early Hinesburg hill farms. Remnants of the mills of Mechanicsville are also visible along Pond Brook. This history on the land provides an accessible way to visualize the lives of early settlers, and inspires us to consider how we might direct future use of the land.
