As Research Director for the Osher Center for Integrative Health, Helene M. Langevin, M.D. leads the growth of UVM’s robust, multidisciplinary research agenda, aligned with national and international partners and field experts. Director of the National Center for Complementary and Integrative Health (NCCIH) at the National Institutes of Health (NIH) from 2018 - 2025, Langevin oversaw a $170 million annual portfolio featuring whole-person research, positive health processes, mind and body practices, pain management, and more.
Prior to her time at the NIH, Dr. Langevin served as Director of the Osher Center for Integrative Health, jointly based at Brigham and Women's Hospital and Harvard Medical School, Professor-in-residence of Medicine at Harvard Medical School, and Professor of Neurological Sciences at The Robert D. Larner, M.D. College of Medicine, University of Vermont.
Dr. Langevin’s research interests have centered around the role of connective tissue in chronic musculoskeletal pain, inflammation and cancer. She has authored more than 100 original scientific papers and is a fellow of the American College of Physicians.
Dr. Langevin received an M.D. degree from McGill University, Montreal. She completed a postdoctoral research fellowship in neurochemistry at the MRC Neurochemical Pharmacology Unit in Cambridge, England, and a residency in internal medicine and fellowship in endocrinology and metabolism at The Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, Maryland.
