This survey has been prepared by the AI in the Curriculum Committee (including faculty representatives from CESS, CEMS, CNHS, GSB, RSENR, CAS, LCOM, and CTL/ WID) of the UVM AI Task Force.
The Overarching Goal of the Committee
By Fall 2026, all programs will have courses/modules to help students achieve both baseline AI literacy and discipline-specific integration. The achievement should be measured by the number of students who participate in and pass an AI literacy module(s) or an AI course, as well as by discipline-determined competency demonstration or integration.
Role of the Committee
The role of this committee is to ensure academic units have the information and guidance they need to meet this timeline. All efforts are carried out in alignment with established faculty governance processes and existing curricular approval structures.
Purpose of This Survey
The purpose of this survey is to gather information on current and planned AI integration in your academic programs to inform planning for the Fall 2026 implementation goal, recognizing that discipline-specific integration will be a gradual process for some units.
Confidentiality
Your responses will be used to identify potential collaborations with other Faculty but otherwise will only be reported in aggregate form without attribution to a specific individual.
Definition of Artificial Intelligence (AI)
Artificial Intelligence (AI) in this Survey refers to computer systems designed to perform tasks that typically require human intelligence. It is an umbrella term encompassing various technologies that enable machines to perceive, learn, reason, and interact in ways similar to humans.
Critical Components of AI
- Machine Learning: Algorithms that improve through experience
- Neural Networks: Systems modeled after the human brain
- Natural Language Processing: Enabling machines to "understand" and generate human language
- Computer Vision: Allowing machines to interpret and analyze visual information
