Professor Kit Vreeland is a nationally certified and Vermont licensed athletic trainer. As a clinical associate professor for the Department of Rehabilitation and Movement Science, Kit plays a role teaching in each of the programs including athletic training, exercise science, and physical therapy. Professor Vreeland specializes in emergency medical response for sports medicine, as well as human movement.

Dr. Vreeland’s clinical duties at UVM include her role as head athletic trainer for club sports, providing and managing coverage for high- and medium-risk sports. She works closely with the men’s and women’s rugby teams, and provides consultation on injury prevention, evaluation, management, and rehabilitation for all UVM club sport athletes. In addition, she has provided AT services for the UVM Reserved Officers’ Training Corps (ROTC).

Professor Vreeland is also very active in the community as an athletic trainer providing services at local athletic events and community sporting competition. This has included coverage at various colleges, high schools, clubs, and leagues within northern Vermont, including St. Michael’s and Champlain Colleges, Winooski High School, BFA-Fairfax, and the Vermont Ice Storm semi-pro football team during their National Championship winning seasons in 2007 and 2008. She has volunteered at community events such as the Vermont City Marathon, USA Triathlon Championships, and as a guest instructor for the VT Healthcare and Emergency Medical System Conference.

Outside of teaching and athletic training, her interests span an active lifestyle. She is a nationally recognized adventure racer as part of the team Strong Machine AR, which has a history of winning the USARA National rankings and overall events such as the 72-hour Florida Sea-to-Sea. She is also an avid hiker, mountain biker, kayaker, skier, camper, and trail runner. You may catch her and her spouse in their newly upfitted van for adventures in #vanlife over the next few years!
