Yesterday I shared this message with all students regarding influenza, flu shots, and the novel Coronavirus (2019-nCoV). The communication to students included the following:

  • Flu prevention strategies
  • A reminder that it's not too late to get a flu shot – appointments available through their myWellbeing portal this week

Faculty and staff are encouraged to contact their primary care provider to get a flu shot.

Regarding the Coronavirus:

While the Centers for Disease Control considers the Coronavirus to be a serious public health concern, they have stated that the immediate risk to the U.S. public is low at this time. Those susceptible to the virus are only those who have been in Wuhan City, China, in the last 14 days or have been in close contact with someone with the virus. At this time, there are no known cases in the state of Vermont.

Here is additional information from the Centers for Disease Control about the Coronavirus

Please be advised that the State Department recommends that travelers avoid all nonessential travel to Hubei Province, China, including Wuhan. More information regarding travel is available here.

Lastly, a reminder about the Center for Health and Wellbeing’s No-Note Policy:  In accord with Class Absence Due to Illness Policy, Faculty are asked to not request a note from students. Please refer students who are concerned about symptoms they are experiencing to the university's Center for Health and Wellbeing.

In good health,
