MedQuest and Advanced MedQuest
These Health Careers Exploration programs for high school students provide opportunities to explore health careers by shadowing health professionals, learning and practicing medical skills with the support of medical student mentors, examining current issues in health care, experiencing daily life on a college campus or in a health care facility, and discovering options for post-secondary education and training.
The Governor's Health and Medicine Institute
The Summer Institute on Health and Medicine is a week-long residential health science enrichment program for high school students in grades 9-11. Participants learn through hands-on lab science and medical skills training from college faculty and practicing health professionals.
Medical Education Directive (MED) Mentors
MED Mentors are a student interest group (SIG) at the UVM Larner College of Medicine. MED Mentors conduct hands-on activities, workshops, and events for middle and high school students throughout the year in Chittenden County.
Health Education Resource Opportunities (HERO)
The HERO program is a year-round academic and health career exploration initiative for high school students. Participants explore careers, develop medical skills, and plan their college and career paths. Hands-on science activities connect to their interests, and each student is paired with a medical student mentor. Their experiences help them achieve their personalized learning plan goals.
Health Career Exploration Activities
These à la carte presentations are hands-on activities (45 to 90 minutes) that demonstrate skills and knowledge required for a variety of health careers are provided to middle and high school students in classroom and conference settings in Vermont throughout the year.
