Project ECHO® (Extension for Community Healthcare Outcomes) is an evidence-based interactive distance-learning method developed by researchers at the University of New Mexico. The ECHO model™ links teams of interdisciplinary specialists with primary care clinicians via case-based learning.
2025-2026 UVM Project ECHO Series
Current Topics in School Nursing
Highlights best practices in a range of health care topics and provides an opportunity for networking and connecting with peers. Strategies for effective communication with students, families and others to support student health and student attendance is woven throughout the series. Each session includes a brief didactic talk followed by a case presentation and group discussion. Case presentations are generated from the school nurse cohort, allowing participants to bring forward their challenging scenarios to receive input and recommendations from the group.

Safer Prescribing of Opioids: Compassionate Tapers and Buprenorphine Transitions
This series was offered in fall 2025 and reviewed best practices and evidence-based care for patients with chronic pain treated with opioids. It included recommendations on how to identify patients at higher risk of complications and to provide compassionate tapering approaches. For patients in whom tapering is a challenge, we focused on effective strategies in transitioning to buprenorphine given its favorable safety profile.

Mental Health Advanced Series: Mood Disorders in Primary Care - REGISTRATION IS NOW OPEN!
Series registration is open from December 19-January 26, 2026
The Mental Health Advanced Series is a multi-year program that began in fall, 2023. The series offered 5-7 sessions on each of these topics: Depression, Anxiety for Primary Care, ADHD, Trauma and Related Disorders. This multi-year program is designed to provide a solid knowledge base and opportunities for in-depth exploration of mental health integration, with the aim of increasing provider confidence and skill. This 6-session spring series, which does not require attendance at previous series, will discuss best practices and evidence-based care, including strategies, screening tools, resources, clinical pearls, and emerging topics in the care of Mood Disorders in a primary care setting.
