Project ECHO at UVM

Body

UVM Project ECHO® offers several series each year at no-cost to participants through a grant from the Vermont Department of Health, and participants receive free CE credits. UVM Project ECHO is cohort based, drawing participants from across the state. Each virtual learning session includes a brief lecture, a case presentation, and discussion. Cohort participants commit to participating in the full series, submitting cases, using a webcam, and actively participating in the zoom session. 

The University of Vermont (UVM) Office of Continuing Medical and Interprofessional Education (CMIE) is approved as a provider of Continuing Medical Education (CME) by the ACCME. Depending on the target audience for each series, CE is available for nurses, social workers, medical providers, and other health professionals.

2025-2026 UVM Project ECHO Series

**REGISTRATION NOW OPEN** Updates in Diabetes Management: Optimizing Glycemic Control with Digital Tools and Medications

This 5-session spring series will discuss evidence-based best practices in the care of patients with Diabetes Mellitus. The focus will be on areas of recent practice change, including optimal use of continuous glucose monitors and practical treatment updates. There will be specific attention to improving our understanding of newer medications, including new options for insulin, SGLT2 inhibitors and GLP-1 and GIP agonists.

Current Topics in School Nursing

Body

Highlights best practices in a range of health care topics and provides an opportunity for networking and connecting with peers. Strategies for effective communication with students, families and others to support student health and student attendance is woven throughout the series. Each session includes a brief didactic talk followed by a case presentation and group discussion. Case presentations are generated from the school nurse cohort, allowing participants to bring forward their challenging scenarios to receive input and recommendations from the group.

Safer Prescribing of Opioids: Compassionate Tapers and Buprenorphine Transitions

This series was offered in fall 2025 and reviewed best practices and evidence-based care for patients with chronic pain treated with opioids. It included recommendations on how to identify patients at higher risk of complications and to provide compassionate tapering approaches. For patients in whom tapering is a challenge, we focused on effective strategies in transitioning to buprenorphine given its favorable safety profile.

Mental Health Advanced Series: Mood Disorders in Primary Care

The Mental Health Advanced Series is a multi-year program that began in fall, 2023. The series offered 5-7 sessions on each of these topics: Depression, Anxiety for Primary Care, ADHD, Trauma and Related Disorders. This multi-year program is designed to provide a solid knowledge base and opportunities for in-depth exploration of mental health integration, with the aim of increasing provider confidence and skill.  This 6-session spring series, which does not require attendance at previous series, will discuss best practices and evidence-based care, including strategies, screening tools, resources, clinical pearls, and emerging topics in the care of Mood Disorders in a primary care setting.
