As the inaugural Director of Professional and Career Development in the Graduate College at the University of Vermont, Dr. Pallas supports graduate students across the university as they prepare for meaningful and rewarding careers. His work includes collaborating with campus partners to design and implement university‑wide programming, assisting colleges and departments with their professional development offerings, and coaching individual students as they explore career options and plan their professional development.
Prior to joining UVM, Dr. Pallas was a tenured Professor of Political Science at Kennesaw State University, where he worked for over 13 years. He is the author of Doctoral Student Skills: Using Your Comparative Advantage to Succeed in Grad School and Prepare for the Job Market (Routledge, 2023) and in 2024 served as KSU’s Faculty Fellow for Graduate Student Support.
Dr. Pallas holds a Ph.D. in Social Policy from the London School of Economics. In addition to his work on professional and career development, Dr. Pallas is an experienced researcher with an extensive record of publication on civil society and global policymaking, especially in international development. He is a past winner of the European Political Science prize, the International Society for Third-Sector Research best article of the year award, and the T.H. Marshall Fellowship. Prior to entering academia, he served as a U.S. Peace Corps volunteer in Togo and worked with the consultancy Development Finance International.
