President Tom Sullivan and Provost David Rosowsky announced earlier this summer that Dr. Cynthia Forehand was named Dean of the Graduate College and Dr. Richard Galbraith was named Vice President for Research.

Dr. Forehand joined the University of Vermont in 1987 after completing her PhD in Neurobiology at the University of North Carolina Chapel Hill, and a postdoctoral fellowship at Washington University in St. Louis. She brings extensive teaching, research, and professional service experience to her role as Dean of the Graduate College. A successful teacher-scholar and a dedicated mentor to students, she also brings her long-held commitment to access and student success.
Dr. Forehand has been serving for the past year as Interim Dean of the Graduate College. Prior to that, she served as Associate Dean of the Graduate College (2010-13). In her role as Interim Dean, Dr. Forehand has taken significant steps to improve and streamline policies and procedures related to graduate education and support.

Dr. Galbraith has had an outstanding record of research, teaching and service throughout his career. He received his MD and underwent his training as an internist at King’s College, London. He received a multidisciplinary PhD in Molecular and Cellular Biology from the Medical University of South Carolina and served on its faculty prior to relocating to Rockefeller University in New York. There he served as Director of the General Clinical Research Center and Rockefeller University Hospital.
Dr. Galbraith joined the University of Vermont as a Professor of Medicine in 1995. He has served as Chief of Clinical Pharmacology in the Department of Medicine, Program Director of the General Clinical Research Center, Associate Dean for Patient Oriented Research and most recently as Interim Senior Associate Dean for Research in the College of Medicine. He has also served as the Director of Patient Oriented Research at Fletcher Allen Health Care (FAHC), and currently is the Director of the UVM Center for Clinical and Translational Science.
