The Graduate College is pleased to announce that Holly Painter, M.F.A., will serve as the Graduate Writing Center (GWC) Interim Coordinator for the upcoming 2022-2023 academic year. Painter, who joined the UVM faculty in 2016, holds a B.A. (magna cum laude) in English and Philosophy from the University of Southern California and a Master of Fine Arts (with distinction) in Creative Writing from the University of Canterbury in Christchurch, New Zealand.
Painter's areas of expertise include academic copy-editing, specializing in working with non-native English speakers; creative writing; environmental writing; New Zealand literature; and fantasy/science fiction. This knowledge set, combined with her experience in roles that include Faculty Associate for Writing in the Disciplines, Faculty Associate for the Arts and Creative Learning Community, and Interim Associate Director of Foundational Writing and Information Literacy, make her uniquely suited to this role.
A 2020 winner of the Kroepsch-Maurice Excellence in Teaching Award, Holly has a demonstrated talent for teaching and helping students develop their writing. This new role will allow Painter to shape GWC resources and offerings and will provide her the opportunity to train and mentor and Graduate Writing Center consultants who work with graduate students from all disciplines, writing in a wide variety of genres.
