The University of Vermont Graduate College is pleased to announce the recipients of the 2019-2020 Graduate Teaching Assistant (GTA) of the Year Awards. This year the two awardees are Bijay K C and Patrick Mullins. Bijay is pursuing a Ph.D. in civil and environmental engineering, and Patrick is pursuing a master’s in mathematics.

GTAs are vital to UVM's teaching mission and these awards recognize two outstanding GTAs for their dedication and the important contributions they make to the instruction of undergraduate students at UVM. Each year, the Graduate College receives nominations from programs across campus and the awardees are selected by a faculty panel comprised of representatives from each college and school. This panel has the difficult job of selecting the two awardees, one who has served as the primary instructor in a lecture-based course and one who has served as laboratory or field instructor, out of a pool of highly qualified and exemplary GTAs.

This year’s nominees included:

  • Nicholas Adler, English
  • Lisa Chamberland, Biology
  • Ekraj Dahal, Materials Science
  • Adam Dyer, Chemistry
  • Quin Gonell, Educational Leadership and Policy Studies
  • Julia Irons, Greek and Latin
  • Bijay K C, Civil and Environmental Engineering
