Biography

Amielle DeWan is the Executive Director of Impact by Design, a non-profit consulting firm that partners with mission-driven organizations to help them achieve their greatest potential. She is an expert in impact assessment and MEL design as well training design, facilitation, and behavior change. Previously, Amielle was the Senior Research and Monitoring Scientist for the International Fund for Animal Welfare (IFAW) where she was responsible for the development and implementation of monitoring and evaluation across IFAW’s programs. Amielle has also served as the Senior Director for Conservation Research and Monitoring at Rare where she was responsible for evaluating and improving the impact of environment-focused behavior change campaigns across the globe, using social and ecological research to define measures of success as well as develop relevant curriculum to train local partners. Amielle serves on a number of additional professional working groups and boards including: the IUCN Species Conservation Planning Subcommittee, the Environmental Leadership Program,and the Emerging Wildlife Conservation Leaders Program. Amielle received her PhD in Wildlife Ecology, Statistics, and GIS from Cornell University in 2008, with a dissertation focused on improving multi-species biodiversity monitoring and assessment. She has her Master’s degree in Conservation Biology and Public Policy from the State University of New York, Albany, and her BA in Biology from SUNY Binghamton.
