BIO
Laura Borys is a Vermont native who spent a decade building a career in costume design across film, television, and live performance in New York City. She returns home, excited to bring that experience back to the UVM Arts community.
Laura began exploring the craft early on as a high schooler with a love of dance. She learned to construct classical tutus from a teacher who saw her interest. From there, she continued to build skills project by project, until that accumulated experience carried her into the Juilliard Professional Apprentice Program in costume design, launching her into a more formal career.
As a member of I.A.T.S.E Local USA 829, Laura has worked as a costume designer, assistant costume designer, costume buyer, and costume coordinator on a wide range of film and television productions. Some titles include Life and Beth, King Coal, Dumb Money, Asphalt City, She Said, The Gilded Age, A Quiet Place Part II, and Little America. She most recently designed and supervised the wardrobe for a Vermont-made film titled Carrying Fire, directed by Lukas Huffman.
Alongside her film and television work, Laura has designed and constructed costumes for theater and dance, including the immersive theater piece Bottom of the Ocean under director Andrew Hoepfner, and works by dancer and choreographer Sarah Weber Gallo. She also assisted costume designer Mio Guberinic with construction on multiple projects, including a Cirque du Soleil production.
Laura is passionate about her craft and excited to take on new projects and learn new techniques. She is most drawn to experimental projects and approaches to performance, and how costume design shapes and deepens those experiences for audiences. Laura holds a B.A. in Sociology & Anthropology from Goucher College.
