This weekend, UVM lecturer in dance Paula Higa premiered her master's thesis at Middlebury College. Higa's work focuses on the intersection between dystonia and contemporary dance.

Accompanying the performance was music by Higa, trumpeter Arthur Brooks, bassist Anthony Santor, and an original score by UVM composition professor Patricia Julien.

"Paula Higa, a Brazilian-born dancer-choreographer on dance faculty of the University of Vermont, has a fascination with dystonia and other conditions people classify as “disabilities.” Two compelling dance works by Higa that incorporate dystonic-like movement with “healthy” movement, were premiered by the choreographer and area professional dancers Friday at Middlebury College’s Mahaney Center Dance Theater.
