Paula Higa, Assistant Professor and Resident Choreographer in the UVM department of Theatre and Dance, will be collaborating with the artist Debra Weisberg for the upcoming exhibition of Weisberg’s latest work, Holding the Center Still at the Piano Craft Gallery in Boston from March 4 to March 27. At the opening and closing receptions Higa will premier and short a short piece created in response to Weisberg’s work. Higa was inspired when planning this dance by the writer and visual artist Deborah Barlow in referring to Weisberg’s work as “art that stretches our humanity, draws us in emotionally, enlivens our sense’s, pushes our vulnerability, and is more open-ended, asking questions rather than providing answers.”
Previously, Higa was influenced by Weisberg’s installation, Tape Drawings, when she created, along with UVM dance students, the site performance project, Quantum Complications, presented during the fall semester of 2019 in Discovery Hall.
