We announce a new award, the Outstanding Music Minor, given to those students who have made a strong contribution to the musical life of the department as a minor. This year’s winners are Stephen Richards and Adam Sullivan.
The winner of the Amanda Cup, given for excellence in vocal or instrumental composition, has his/her name engraved on the silver cup, which is on display in the department. The Amanda Cup is named after the most famous hymn- tune of Vermonter Justin Morgan. This year’s winner is Paul Cirignano.
The Thomas Read Award in Composition is given for outstanding achievement in music composition. The Award is named after Professor Emeritus Thomas L. Read, who taught at UVM from 1967-2008. This year’s winner is David Clancy.
The Pappoutsakis Award is given to a graduating senior that has shown excellence in conducting/directing. The award is named for Prof. Emeritus Ippocrates Pappoutsakis (1909-1990) who published "Diagrams of Basic Movements in Conducting" in 1943. This year’s winner is Sinead O’Mahoney.
The Yandell Prize (for most improved performance) is given to the student who, in the opinion of the faculty, has shown the most improvement over their time at UVM. This year’s winner is Emmett Caruso.
The Lyman Rowell Award for Academic Achievement in Music is given to the graduating senior in Music or Music Education with the highest G.P.A. in music courses. The award is named for Lyman S. Rowell (1904-1984), Class of 1925, who was a long-time faculty member and President of UVM from 1966-1970. This year’s winner is Justin Dunn.
The Outstanding Performance/Choreography Award is given for outstanding performance and/or choreography. This year’s winner is Mollie Morgan.
The Outstanding Senior in Dance Award is given to a graduating senior who has made an outstanding contribution to dance at UVM. This year’s winners are Sarah Macdonald and Olivia Malone.
The Yandell Outstanding Senior in Music Education Award is given to a graduating senior in Music Education who shows a strong capacity for music teaching and has made an outstanding contribution to the musical life of the department. This year’s winner is Matt Avery.
The Yandell Outstanding Senior in Music Award is given to a graduating senior who has made an outstanding contribution to the musical life of the department. This year’s winner is Jonah Ullman.
