What work looks like: “I help investigate civil rights complaints and enforce federal civil rights laws to protect vulnerable populations from exploitation and abuse as an extension of the Department of Justice.”
What they love about it: “I enjoy being able to find justice for individuals whose rights are being violated.”
What they gained from a liberal arts education: “I learned how to critically analyze texts, synthesize multiple viewpoints, and approach complex topics from an interdisciplinary perspective. I apply all these skills on a daily basis, without question. I believe receiving a well-rounded education has been the single greatest educational asset that I’ve had in the job market. Being able to holistically identify complex issues and understand them from social, political, and statistical angles has allowed me to jump between work at nonprofits, state and local governments, the federal government, and more. I also learned to never be afraid to throw in an application. You’d be surprised just how many people want to say “yes” when you ask them for help. Don’t let yourself be the “no” that stops you!”
