What work looks like: “I identify and analyze legal risks resulting from the use and development of AI. Because the field of AI law is so new, there is a ton of space to exercise creativity and conduct novel analytical thinking. The exciting thing about being a lawyer in a field of emerging law is that not only can you help your client, but you can also actively shape the direction of the law.”
What he loves about it: “Because advances in AI are happening so rapidly, the legal issues and risks are always changing. This means I need to constantly educate myself on the new technological developments and be extremely flexible in my thinking. I really enjoy tackling these challenges in my work.”
What he gained from a liberal arts education: “The ability to analyze complex issues and communicate clearly and effectively, both in writing and speaking. Discussions in my liberal arts classes turned out to be strikingly similar to the discussions I have with my co-workers almost every day. We are constantly engaged in a type of collaborative problem-solving that is very similar to the way students engage in classroom discussion in a seminar. In these settings, you need to be able to not only articulate your ideas effectively but also listen to and understand the ideas of others. One of the most powerful exercises I learned in my philosophy coursework was to explore the opposite position of the one that I thought was right. This gave me the ability to understand diverse perspectives, construct an effective argument, and challenge my own biases.”
