BIO

A native Vermonter, Mezzo Soprano Lori Marino is thrilled to be back home as part of the voice faculty at the University of Vermont. Lori believes that each student who walks into her studio brings with them distinct skills, abilities, knowledge and cultural context. These distinctions contribute to divergent interpretations of composers’ stories through song and necessitate the development of differentiated techniques and methodologies for each singer. Lori has a passion for all styles of singing. She has performed roles in musical theater, appeared in cabarets, fronted for a jazz quintet, and performed as lead singer for an R & B band. Her students have been accepted into distinguished programs of study and toured internationally.

A mezzo soprano, Lori was last heard as Dorabella in Cosi fan tutte, with Vermont Opera In Concert. Lori recently appeared as Alto soloist for the Vermont Philharmonic’s 2024 performance of Hӓndel’s, Messiah and in Opera Company of Middlebury’s most recent production of La Bohème as well as past productions of La fille du régiment, Fidelio and Tosca. Lori has made multiple appearances as a concert and oratorio soloist and worked extensively as a professional cantor. Ms. Marino will be directing the Children’s Choir for the Vermont Symphony Orchestra’s upcoming performance of Carmina Burana.

Lori currently studies with Amy Zorn in New York and has had the privilege of studying with Alan Bowers, Trish McCaffrey, Roland Bentley and Nadja Brown. Lori earned her Master of Voice Pedagogy degree from Westminster Choir College, working under the tutelage of Dr. Christopher Arneson and Dr. Kathy Price. She earned her Undergraduate degree in Vocal Performance from the Ithaca College School of Music.

Ms. Marino holds a Vermont State Teaching license for Grades PK-12, with an endorsement in music education. She currently teaches and directs Choir at Shelburne Community School.
