UVM Percussion Ensemble (photo by Mike Lawler)

The UVM Percussion Ensemble was founded in 1983 to introduce students to both the standard literature and the improvisational tradition of percussion instruments.

Percussion Ensemble is open to students of all majors at UVM. Emphasis is placed on the art of ensemble playing: listening and responding to ideas of balance, accompaniment, etc. The ensemble presents at least two concerts per year, and occasionally performs off-campus at public schools, colleges, and professional meetings. The repertoire is chosen from the standard literature as well as improvisatory tradition of percussion music.

Auditions

Students are expected to prepare a short excerpt, etude, or solo on snare drum, mallets, and/or timpani that reflect the level and experience the student has in each area.  Students are welcome to use the audition material for the UVM Band, or something they have played in the past.  Please e-mail Prof. Toner if you have any questions.
