The University of Vermont Music Program is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Andrea Maas as Director of Choirs and Coordinator of the Music Education program. Dr. Maas holds an Ed.D. in Music and Music Education from Teachers College, Columbia University, New York City, where she served as the Director of Student Teaching in Music. She has most recently been on the faculty of the Crane School of Music in Potsdam, N.Y. 

Previous to advanced training, Maas taught fifteen years of PK-12 public school general music, choir, beginning instruments, theory, and musical theater. While she was in N.Y.C., she was also deeply involved in designing curriculum and professional development opportunities for musicians, and integrating music technology into PK-12 classrooms.

Maas’ work has been presented at the International Symposium for Music Education, International Conference on Music and Emotion, National Symposium for Research in Music Education, The Conkling Forum on Social Justice in Music Teacher Education and the National ACDA Research Symposium in Choral Singing. Recent publications include entries in the International Journal for Research in Choral Singing and a book manuscript, in press with Lexington Books, an imprint of Rowman & Littlefield: "Music Education on the Verge: Stories of Pandemic Teaching and Transformative Change." 

Dr. Maas’ experience and training in the classroom, professional research interests, experience in teacher preparation and background in choral music, prepare her ideally to connect with the UVM music community. Please join us in welcoming Dr. Andrea Maas!
