Research Funding

There are multiple funding streams available to help support student research done under the mentorship of a faculty member. These support programs provide invaluable assistance to students involved in the creation of new artwork or undertaking scholarly activities.

APLE Awards Spring 2026

APLE awards provide up to $500 in support of expenses involved in credit-bearing undergraduate research and creative activities. Each year, up to twenty-four awards will be available to support activities such as travel to research libraries or other sites to gather data and expenses for supplies.

APLE Summer Stipends

The SURF Program covers the majority of the FOUR summer undergraduate research awards, pulling together several different awards under one common application. All provide a $4500 stipend (rather than paying a wage), and students may request up to $500 for research expenses.

The office of Fellowships, Opportunities, & Undergraduate Research (FOUR) is UVM’s central resource for undergraduates seeking guidance on research pathways and funding opportunities here at UVM. FOUR also provides support for current and former students pursuing nationally competitive fellowships.
