Transferring Credits to UVM
Before You Apply
Get an idea of how your credits may transfer
Use UVM’s interactive credit guide/course equivalency tool to understand how your credits and courses may transfer to UVM. While this tool is not a substitute for an official evaluation of transfer credit (see below), it can give you a general idea of how credits and courses have transferred in the past.
Upon Acceptance
Receive your official credit evaluation
Once you have been accepted into a degree program, you will receive an official transfer credit evaluation in 3-5 business days. Your academic advisor will work with you to determine how your transfer credit can be applied towards your new UVM degree requirements, as well as which courses you will take at UVM to complete your degree.
In some cases, and at the academic department’s discretion, credit by exam is offered. Learn more on the Registrar’s FAQ page.
Gather course syllabi
UVM has a history of transferring credits from many institutions, and many courses have already been evaluated for UVM equivalency. If you’ve completed a course for which we haven’t transferred credit in the past, and you’d like it reviewed for equivalence of a specific UVM course, we’ll need a copy of the syllabus to complete that in-depth evaluation. It’s a good idea to start collecting those syllabi as early as possible, in case we need them for your official credit evaluation.
Accept or adjust your credit evaluation
The initial credit evaluation we provide doesn’t have to be set in stone. If you need a more in-depth review for a specific course, we will request that you provide the course syllabus so we can conduct that specific review.
