Project Overview

Characterize groundwater recharge and flow in the upland portion of the Browns River basin in northwestern Vermont using measurements of stable oxygen isotopes in precipitation (rain and snow) and groundwater (wells).

Objectives

Collect precipitation (rain and snow) and groundwater (wells) weekly and test samples for stable oxygen isotopes, deuterium and tritium. Use these measurements to determine the effects of mechanisms that affect recharge (precipitation, melting, evaporation and vegetative uptake).
