Certificate of Graduate Study in Ecological Economics
and the
Certificate of Graduate Study in Ecological Design

The Gund Institute for Ecological Economics offers graduate-level
training in the form of two Certificate Programs: Certificate of Graduate Study in Ecological Economics and Certificate of Graduate Study in Ecological Design.

Certificates of Graduate Study in Ecological Economics and Ecological Design connect the many different fields of study that their subject encompasses and provide students with an opportunity to venture beyond academia and into a new world of solution-oriented learning even as they continue their concentrated studies in a traditional discipline.

Two of the primary courses required for the Certificate in Ecological Economics are currently up online. The primary goal of these courses is to provide full access to ecological economics content to students, the general public, and educators all over the world.

There are two ways to earn a Certificate of Graduate Study:

  1. Graduate students can earn a Certificate through a number of Master's and/or Doctoral degree programs at the University of Vermont.

  2. The Certificate can also be earned as a "stand-alone" certificate for Continuing Education students, who already have an appropriate Master's or Ph.D., or for qualified professionals with equivalent life experience. Applications will be reviewed by an appropriately identified group of faculty. In these cases some of the courses are online courses, with plans to add more, and are highly recommended as they do not require physical access to the campus.

How To Apply

There are three ways to apply to the Certificate of Graduate Study programs:

  1. DUAL GRADUATE DEGREE / CERTIFICATE PROGRAM APPLICANTS: Applicants who are applying at the same time for both a regular graduate degree program and also for a Certificate of Graduate Study at UVM: Applicants should follow regular procedures for applying to the UVM Graduate College; see the Graduate College application web pages and information at: http://www.uvm.edu/~gradcoll/?Page=forms/appinstructions.html.

  3. APPLICANTS TO CERTIFICATE OF GRADUATE STUDY PROGRAMS ONLY: Applicants seeking to enroll only in a Certificate of Graduate Study program (and not to a graduate degree program): Persons who are not currently enrolled in a UVM graduate program, and who are not seeking to enroll in a Master's or doctoral UVM graduate program, but who are seeking admission to a Certificate of Graduate Study program, should follow regular on-line procedures for applying to the UVM Graduate College. These are described and can be accessed at: http://www.uvm.edu/~gradcoll/?Page=forms/appinstructions.html
