Preparing for TREK

Phew! You made it through the lottery and registration and you've received your confirmation email. Now that that's out of the way - you might be wondering what’s next? There are still a few critical things you need to do to prepare for your trip in the immediate future:

Review your packing list

Body

While specific gear related to your trip will be provided (kayaks, canoes, etc.), some of your own gear must be purchased and packed by you. For your comfort and safety (and the comfort and safety of your fellow TREKkies), you will need all of the required items on this list (and yes, we really do mean all). When you arrive for check-in, TREK Leaders will check your equipment and you will be asked to obtain any missing items prior to leaving for your trip.

Please note: these packing lists are from the 2025 TREK season. Updated lists for this year will be published shortly. We don't anticipate significant changes to any of our lists, but please make sure to check back here for this year's packing lists this summer! Adventure TREK 2025 Packing List (PDF)

Gear requests

Body

It is our goal to make equipment available to those who need it. After reviewing the packing list for your trip please submit the gear request form for equipment that you need to borrow. Please note that equipment is limited. Priority will be given on a first-come, first-served basis and to those receiving financial assistance. You can find the link to this form in your confirmation email.

Check your new UVM email

Body

All future correspondence about TREK will be to your UVM email address only. This includes any requests for supplemental materials, TREK financial support notifications, and move-in logistics. All official UVM communications will be sent to your UVM account - so starting to check it now is a great habit to get into!

Review the itinerary for TREK launch day (August 21, 2026)

Body

Want to know exactly what your arrival to campus, check-in, move-in and more will look like on Friday, August 21? A detailed schedule will be available soon! In the meantime, here is a general overview of events:

  • TREK check-in occurs from 9:00–11:00 AM on Friday August 21 at the Patrick Gymnasium. Please do NOT arrive earlier than 9:00 AM, as our team will be getting prepared for the check-in process.
  • Once gear-check is complete, you'll receive your residence hall key and move into your room. You will need to return to Patrick Gym by 2:30 for TREK kickoff. So, the earlier you arrive for check-in, the more time you'll have to settle into your dorm. There will also be a session for parents, families and supporters offered at this time.

PLEASE NOTE: While we appreciate the travel efforts your family is making to come to Vermont early, under no circumstances are students participating in the TREK program able to access their rooms the day before TREK begins. The buildings will not be open, you will not have your room key, and there will be no staff present to assist you.
