UVM ARC’s greatest asset is our diverse facilitator team.

Naturalists, Educators, Artists, Students, Counselors, Musicians, Nurses, Social Workers - Our Facilitators come from a variety of backgrounds and possess a wide range of supporting skills, interests and experience. They are intuitive, energetic, and charismatic. They can quickly build rapport with others, read group dynamics, and react appropriately to help elicit desired outcomes. They are personable, competent, creative and fun.

KYLIE ARNOLD, Intern

Kylie Arnold

Kylie is a Boston area native living in Vermont while she studies Elementary Education at UVM. An outdoor enthusiast who grew up in the woods, Kylie began facilitating through her time as a camp counselor, then joined the UVM ARC team in 2018. She loves encouraging participants to step out of their comfort zone through play and experiential learning opportunities. When she's not at school or on the course, you can find her working at a local preschool, running or reading

MELLISA CAIN, Facilitator

"Mellisa Cain is an Educator, who has lived or traveled to over 25 countries and worked with 1,000s of youth on a variety of Social Justice and Leadership topics. Currently, Mellisa juggles seven jobs, including her own teambuilding business, Learning through Laughter, running a youth center and.... dog walking. Mellisa has Masters in Conflict Transformation and Youth Program Leadership from SIT Graduate Institute, where she focused on training design and experiential learning. Passionate about teambuilding and community building, Mellisa has been known to start teambuilding activities at parties...."

LIZZ LACH, Lead Facilitator

"Lizz loves to be outside and that love brought her to the course in 2008. She has been spending her summers hanging out with the fabulous facilitator crew ever since. In the meantime she holds down a job at RMCS in South Burlington, as a behavior facilitator. She loves to encourage people to work through challenges, help them improve their problem solving skills, play outside and more than anything HAVE FUN! She's a UVM alum whose happy to call VT her home. When she's not having fun and playing outside at any of these activities you can find her traveling or in the mountains with her dog Nala."

KAREN OBERTUBBESING, Lead Facilitator

"Karen is a familiar face around UVM! You can find her facilitating civic engagement programs in the Leadership Learning Community, supporting incoming students and their families with Orientation, or laughing among the trees at the ropes course! Sometimes, you can also find her searching for birds in local parks with middle schoolers or coaching elementary school girls to run their first 5k. Karen has a passion for building inclusive community and supporting others in their learning and development through experiential education. When she’s not working, you can find her running on the bike path, hiking in the mountains, or finding dogs to pet around town. "

JAMIE STRUCK, Lead Facilitator

"Jamie Struck is a 20+ year group facilitator, trip leader and adventurer. His experience working with the very young to the very mature has allowed him to develop a passion for the process involved in group facilitation and a healthy respect for the power of change that it can provide. He is most likely found in a knot of people who are amped up, jumping around, and generally enjoying themselves as they find new ways to work together."

CHARLIE WHISTLER, Lead Facilitator

Charlie Whistler, Lead Facilitator

“A native of Western New York, Charlie moved to Vermont to attend UVM in 2005. He got his start facilitating challenge courses as a summer camp counselor in 2006 and joined the UVM Adventure Ropes Course team in 2008. While at UVM he was also active leading trips and peer leader development programs with the Outing Club. Since graduating with a degree in history in 2009 Charlie has spent several years in social work followed by several years working as a touring musician. These days you can find him running, biking, or playing music around Chittenden County.”

MEGAN MEINEN, Coordinator

"Megan is passionate about connections - people connecting with people, people connecting with nature, and people connecting more deeply with themselves. She has been an experiential educator in various capacities over the past twelve years. She has volunteered at an adventure camp in Honduras, directed a place-based summer camp in Massachusetts, led an afterschool nature program for preschoolers and facilitated with Project Adventure. Her love of people and experiential education have led her to develop a passion for group facilitation and training others to facilitate.

When she's not planning programs or on the course with a group, she loves to explore the Green Mountains and Adirondacks by foot, bike, or canoe with her husband, John, daughter, Willa, and dog, Fella. She also loves pizza. A lot. She looks forward to talking to you about opportunities at UVM ARC."
