Group of Facilitators

Interested in joining our team?

Facilitating at the UVM Adventure Ropes Course is fun, inspiring, and rewarding! Our facilitators are drawn to this work by many things: A beautiful work environment, a flexible schedule, thoughtful coworkers, and unique programs. Facilitators are constantly challenged to acquire new skills, learn new games and initiatives, and help people find deeper meaning and connect the dots.

The UVM ARC hires and trains UVM students, staff, and surrounding community members to facilitate our programs. For those interested in the UVM ARC, new to facilitation, or looking to refresh their skills, we offer free facilitator workshop. While no previous experience on a course is necessary it helps if you have a been to a ropes course before, shadowed on our course, and/or have some experience working with groups in various capacities. Facilitators must be able to walk a mile (to the course and back), lift 40lbs, and stand for up to 9 hours.

Prospective facilitators are required to pass a skills assessment prior to working at the course. Once hired new facilitators becoming acquainted with our course through shadowing and/or co-facilitating one to three programs. During this time, you will have the opportunity to learn our Local Operating procedures, watch a variety of facilitators and programs, and receive feedback from a lead facilitator. After a discussion with the coordinator, you will be ready to facilitate on your own.

If that all sounds great...

Please send Megan your cover letter, resume and facilitation log and we will figure out a training plan that is right for you! All applicants are required to submit and application and pass a skills assessment and background check.

Don't have past facilitation skills? That's okay! Join us for the 4-day facilitator workshop to gain the skills you need to facilitate on the challenge course.

Upcoming workshops:

Spring Facilitator Workshops (open to students and community members)

This 4 day workshop will cover the basics of challenge course facilitation, from understanding the experiential learning cycle to the technical ropes skills and everything in between. Facilitation has many facets and we will explore them all. Each year we offer this spring facilitation workshop open to those interested in gaining the skills needed to facilitate on the course.  The first weekend we will focus on group facilitation skills and low elements.  The second weekend of training will focus on high element and more technical skills. Due to the importance of the group development experience we ask that you commit to the whole 4 day series. While not required, this training will give you the proper tools to be able to take the assessment required before becoming a facilitator. Please contact Megan (ropes@uvm.edu) if you'd like to attend the workshop.
